From the USA Today best-selling author of Dreamspell comes Lady Ever After, the second medieval time travel romance in the Beyond Time series.
England, 1464. As civil war rages, King Edward IV besieges the northern barons who support the dethroned King Henry VI. Among the last strongholds to fall is Strivling Castle, whose lady gives her life defending her home against the usurpers.
As foretold by her dreams, Lady Catherine Algernon is determined to defend Strivling Castle to the death. But when a besieger saves her life just as her nightmare unfolds, a future is forced on her she never dreamed possible - with a man who believes she is someone else. Who is this enemy who defied fate by averting the mortal blow? And how is she to keep him from laying siege to a heart more guarded than her home?
Successful businessman Collier Morrow has everything he could possibly want, including a priceless, unfinished portrait of the legendary Catherine Algernon. When a lie costs him the woman he loves, he finds himself in the midst of the siege upon Strivling Castle, face-to-face with its defender who is the very image of the love he lost. Given an opportunity to redeem himself, he soon discovers the fiercely rebellious Lady Catherine is not who she appears to be. Should he return to his own time? Or risk the life he knew for another chance at love?

Let me start out by saying I'm a big fan of Tamara Leigh's books. I've read the Age of Faith series, a couple of the Lady series, and Dream Spell, which is one of her very best, and I absolutely loved them. I was expecting the same caliber of time-travel romance as Dream Spell, but this one just didn't... feel right. There is something off right from the beginning, where the modern day story is so rushed and the back story is crammed in so fast, it just felt silly. We see none of the brothers' supposedly cantankerous relationship, and we barely see any of the relationship between Collier and Aryn. And would a woman relocate to another country for a man who has never told her he loves her? I didn't believe their relationship for a moment. We barely got to know the woman, and then she was gone. As a reader, I felt nothing, and I didn't really believe Collier's reaction either. We simply hadn't been given enough to be invested. Then Collier goes back in time, and instead of taking all that brokenness with him, he really seemed to be mostly fine and dandy in that century. A bit of angst over the loss of Aryn, but truly, he did not seem all that out of place or having much difficulty dealing all the differences between the 21st and the 15th century. Yeah, he appeared a bit of a novelty to the medieval crowd, but nothing to cause a problem. In fact, the head of the captured prisoners accepts this stranger popping in on them with almost no questions. And while he was a basketcase in the 21st century, he is a tower of reason and wisdom in the 15th. He can't do relationships in the 21st, but he handles every relationship in the 15th with the aplomb of a statesman.
And then there's Lady Catherine and the ridiculous backstory of being given to a hard woman at a young age by her father, so she would have the discipline to not tell anyone about her dreams of the future. WHAT? Wouldn't it have made more sense for her father to keep her close so he could help her understand the importance of keeping quiet. Does it make any sense to just toss her out there and hope for the best? Especially when he didn't even tell the woman about the dreams? This was a real plot point failure, in my book.
As to Collier and Catherine's relationship, It moved too fast in places and too slowly in others. Nothing felt natural.
I know I've got a lot of SPOILERS in here, and I apologize, but here are a few more: Collier ends up back in the 21st century, dying, with no real explanation why. Yes, he's been in a coma, but people can be kept alive in a coma for years. Plus, he didn't seem like he was near death at all except for a few mentions of weakness, etc.--his speech didn't reflect near death, and I had to keep reminding myself that he was dying. This was another plot point failure. And having him come back to make amends with the brother we've barely seen and the mother we never saw didn't really add much to the story. If we had seen something of their relationships earlier, it might have.
Another problem was Leigh's writing style. I usually love it because it fits so well with historical novels. In this one, however, she needed to make her style for the modern scenes more contemporary (especially at the beginning). It seemed stilted, round about, and at times, confusing. (I don't remember this being a problem in Dream Spell.)
To sum up, the story doesn't flow well, and while Catherine shows a bit of growth in thought, it really isn't a huge change. Collier doesn't grow, he just transforms into someone else when sent to the past. There are too many plot flaws for me to recommend this book to anyone else, and I know it won't be one I read again, even for the romance, which was pretty flat. There ARE, however, very good books to read by this author. All those I mentioned are 4 and 5 star books.

Lady Ever After Beyond Time Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Tamara Leigh Mary Sarah Agliotta Books Reviews
Literally one of the best books I've read in a long time. And I already look forward to reading it again!
There are so many amazing things about it, that I don't know where to start. I don't want to sound ridiculous, but I loved the beginning, I loved the middle, and I loved the end. I stayed up waayyy too late - for several nights in a row, reading this book because I was so engaged in the story - and wanted to know how everything was going to work out!!! I felt every emotion possible! Tamara Leigh has an amazing talent for writing that makes you feel like you are part of the story somehow! No exaggeration!
Pros - Extremely well developed, strong characters. A love story that grips you - heart and soul and takes you through highs and lows.
There is great chemistry between the main characters. The romance is clean, and builds beautifully - and satisfyingly.
Cons - (This is just my personal reflection and not an actual criticism) - This book has the tags of 'Christian Fiction' and 'Christian Romance'. To be fair, there are several mentions about God, and some of the characters pray to God. But that is it. There is not any mention of salvation in Jesus Christ, or forgiveness and grace. In my opinion, that would have been a wonderful addition to the story and would have given an added facet of depth to the main characters.
So far, I have enjoyed every one of Tamara Leigh's books that I have read. I still have a few more to go, but Lady Ever After is definitely one of my favorites, that as I said ~ I already look forward to reading it again!! To me, that is one of the things that makes a great book great - - if you are truly looking forward to reading it over and over!
*I don't personally believe in time travel, but I do very much enjoy reading stories like this one - that make you believe that maybe there is just a wee possibility that it could be true?? -D
4.5 Stars!!!
***This is a clean read rewrite of Leigh's 1997 novel Unforgotten.
I was fully engaged within the pages of this story rather quickly. Having never read Unforgotten, I cannot speak to the differences between the original story and the rewrite. But, I can tell you this one is most definitely worth the read! The story is well told and the characters endearing. I was delighted that the things standing between Catherine and Collier were not drawn out, as they can be in novels at times. Rather, I enjoyed seeing the relationship blossom between them. As well as, seeing Collier transform in to a man that fits the description of hero and leading man.
While this is not an inspirational novel, but a clean read rewrite, Leigh still added touches of faith here and there. Definitely not the main theme, but organic to the story and feel of the time period as well. She tied in lessons on trust, truth, wisdom and patience as well. Overall, just a really fantastic read. I am looking forward to seeing what she has up her sleeve next in her Age of Faith series, and I am hoping for a possible Book 3 in this one as well!?! At the end, there was a part of the novel that gave me a vision of Book 3 but we will see!
